Hormona Lisa Opens Up About Drag Race Drama – Tension Over RuPaul’s Selection and Her Time on the Show

Hormona Lisa, the latest queen eliminated from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17, opens up about her experience on the show, revealing how some of her fellow contestants’ reactions to her being handpicked by RuPaul affected her. She also sheds light on her feelings towards guest judge Katy Perry and her moments of tension with castmates like Kori King and Lexi Love.

In her exit interview, Hormona reflected on the emotional impact her status as RuPaul’s chosen queen had on her relationships with the cast. Despite her excitement and pride over being selected by Mama Ru at a book tour event in early 2024, Hormona admits that the reaction from some of the other queens didn’t feel supportive.

On Katy Perry and the “Enemy” Within

When discussing her comments about Katy Perry during the group interview, Hormona elaborated on her feelings. Growing up in a religious household in the South, she explained that “the enemy” is a term used to describe anything that negatively affects a person’s mindset. Hormona observed that Katy seemed stressed during her appearance on the show, which led her to feel that “the enemy” had taken over, even though she clarified that she did not mean Perry was possessed. She said, “I felt bad for her… Anything that’s taking you out of enjoying the moment, that’s what I consider the enemy.”

Drama with Kori King and Lexi Love

Hormona’s candid reveal about her relationship with Kori King during filming stirred some surprise among fans. She confessed that from the start, Kori did not appear to be a fan of hers, which created tension. Hormona shared that, although they were not best friends, she had hoped their bond would improve over time. “We’re acquaintances now, and that’s a step in the right direction,” she noted.

Regarding the conflict with Lexi Love, Hormona recalled a tense moment during the design challenge where she had to remove stones from her dress. She felt the situation was unfair, especially when Lexi appeared to take most of the stones for herself. Despite this, Hormona didn’t feel the need to “squeal” on her and noted that she did not operate out of spite. “I didn’t want to take away from Suzie’s moment with her headpiece,” she said, explaining why she didn’t bring up Lexi’s actions.

Tensions Around RuPaul’s Selection

Hormona reflected on the challenges of being handpicked by RuPaul and how that created friction with some of the other queens. “It was sad to me,” Hormona admitted. “For it to be s— on by a room of people I rooted for and tried to be kind to, it’s a little s—y.” She understood that some of the queens might have viewed her as a “shoo-in” to win, but she expressed that she would never try to diminish someone else’s success to elevate her own.

Unexpected Surprises and Lip-Sync Gags

Hormona also touched on her creative moments during the season, including her plans for the talent show. Initially, she wanted to perform a burlesque routine where she transformed into a robot, but due to costume issues, that idea fell through. Her backup plan, an animal impersonation track, also didn’t come to fruition on stage.

When asked about her lip-sync performance in her final episode, Hormona explained her intentions behind the dramatic gags that didn’t translate well on screen. She described pulling out letters from her bosom and throwing them in the air, inspired by a lyric in Olivia Rodrigo’s “Get Him Back.” Another gag involved ripping apart a flower in line with the “he loves me, he loves me not” theme from the song.

Hormona’s time on Drag Race may be over, but her journey is far from finished. With a hopeful outlook toward the future and a potential All Stars invitation, she remains focused on her growth and resilience.

RuPaul’s Drag Race continues Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
