“MobLand” Premiere Recap: Tom Hardy’s Fixer Works Overtime Amid Crime Family Warfare
In the debut of MobLand, a new crime series on Paramount+, the stage is set with high tension and bloody confrontations, introducing viewers to a web of power struggles and personal conflicts. The show kicks off with a bloody cold open that leaves no doubts about the violent nature of the world we’re entering.
The first scene introduces Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy), a seasoned fixer tasked with mending rifts between two rival gangs. In a backroom of a London restaurant, Harry arranges a peace meeting between the factions. Despite some reluctant handshakes, the peace agreement falls short, as the two groups refuse to apologize to each other. This half-hearted resolution isn’t enough for Harry’s boss, Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan), who is dining upstairs. After delivering an apple orchard analogy, Conrad orders Harry to clean up the mess, prompting Harry to return with two of his own men and massacre both gangs. Conrad then finishes the job with chilling efficiency, crushing one of the surviving criminals’ throats under his expensive shoe.
With the bloodshed behind him, Harry’s troubles are far from over. We then meet Tommy Stevenson (Felix Edwards) and Eddie Harrigan (Anson Boon), two young men from rival crime families, engaging in reckless behavior in East End. Eddie, the brash and entitled grandson of Conrad, gets into a violent altercation in a club, which ends in bloodshed. Though Eddie dismisses the incident, Tommy is shaken, leading the two to flee the scene.
The following morning, Conrad, now in his countryside mansion, is informed by his old friend Archie (Alex Jennings) of a new deal in the heroin trade. However, Conrad is keen to expand into the more dangerous business of fentanyl, a move that raises tensions, especially with his rival, Richie Stevenson, who is wary of the escalating drug trade.
Meanwhile, Harry gets a call from Kevin Harrigan (Paddy Considine), Conrad’s son, about Eddie’s bloody return home. Harry swings into action, using his vast network to cover up the crime: intimidating the club owner to delete CCTV footage, threatening the injured victim in the hospital, and hiding Eddie’s bloodied clothes in a coffin about to be buried.

The drama intensifies when Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell) learns from his wife that their son Tommy was last seen with Eddie the previous night. Concerned that the Harrigans might be using his son to gain leverage in the fentanyl business, Richie confronts Kevin, but Eddie denies the meeting, leading to a tense standoff between the two families.
Back at home, Harry’s wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt), is dealing with her own personal strain. In an attempt to cope with the stress, she attends primal therapy classes and spends time with a new friend, Alice (Emily Barber). At home, Jan discusses the unresolved tension between her and Harry, revealing that she wants him to attend couples therapy. Harry, despite his reluctance, agrees to attend one session.
As Harry tries to manage the chaos of his professional life, Conrad and Harry arrange a meeting with Richie at an old boxing gym. Tensions are high, and Harry stations his bodyguards, Zosia (Jasmine Jobson) and Kiko (Antonio González Guerrero), outside, just in case the negotiations turn violent. Richie demands a face-to-face with Eddie, but Harry refuses. Instead, he gives Richie a deadline: by noon the next day, Harry will have answers about Eddie’s actions.
In a tense moment, Harry secretly calls Conrad to ask if he should eliminate Richie to prevent further conflict. As the situation grows more volatile, Conrad seeks the counsel of his wife, Maeve (Helen Mirren), who must decide whether to let Richie live. After a tense exchange, Maeve advises her husband to spare Richie—for now.
Back at the Harrigan estate, tensions rise when Conrad holds a family meeting to discuss the future of the family business. He announces his decision to move into the fentanyl trade, but Archie again protests. Conrad steps away, leaving Maeve to confront Archie about his betrayal. When Conrad returns, he takes a shocking action—he shoots Archie point-blank in the chest, immediately throwing the room into chaos.
The episode ends with Conrad emotionally torn after executing his childhood friend, while Maeve tries to comfort him. However, her touch is met with rejection as Conrad, clearly disturbed by his actions, pulls away from her.
With power plays, personal tensions, and violence erupting in every corner, MobLand sets the stage for an intense series full of unpredictable twists.
