Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart and Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan might not be thrilled about the new addition.

James Gunn, co-chair of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, had previously hinted that HBO’s Lanterns would feature “a few other Lanterns” alongside Pierre’s John Stewart and Chandler’s Hal Jordan. Now, we know at least one of them.

After making his debut in this summer’s Superman (hitting theaters July 11), Nathan Fillion is set to reprise his role as Guy Gardner in the upcoming True Detective-style drama series, according to a source speaking with Entertainment Weekly.

Both John and Hal are likely to have strong reactions to Guy’s involvement. Fillion recently teased his portrayal of Guy in Superman, describing the character to TV Guide: “He’s a jerk! What’s important to understand is, you don’t need to be a good person to be a Green Lantern; you just need to be fearless. Guy Gardner is fearless, but not very good or nice, which is liberating for an actor. It gives you the freedom to ask, ‘What’s the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do here?’ And that’s the answer.”

Fillion also mentioned, “If Guy has a superpower, it’s probably his overconfidence—he genuinely believes he could take on Superman. But he can’t!”

In Superman, Guy Gardner sports a distinctive bowl cut and will share the screen with other iconic DC heroes, including Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. The film will help set the stage for future DC projects like the Creature Commandos animated series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Peacemaker season 2 on HBO Max.

Lanterns will focus on Pierre’s John Stewart, a new Green Lantern recruit who teams up with the seasoned veteran Hal Jordan (played by Chandler) to investigate a murder in the American heartland. Their dark, Earth-based mystery sets off larger consequences across the DC universe.

The series will also feature Kelly MacDonald as Sheriff Kerry, a woman shaped by a complicated past; Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, a conspiracy-minded modern cowboy; Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, a former Green Lantern expelled for abusing his power; Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, a composed and cunning woman who thrives in a male-dominated world; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as a younger version of John’s mother, Bernadette.
