Peaky Blinders Creator Steven Knight Confirms Film Has Wrapped: ‘A Fitting End to the First Chapter’
The highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie has officially completed filming, according to series creator Steven Knight. While this may mark the end of one chapter, Knight hinted that the Peaky Blinders story might not be over just yet.
Filming wrapped on December 13th, Knight shared during an appearance on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast. The film boasts an impressive cast, featuring Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and returning stars Cillian Murphy and Stephen Graham. “I have to say, it is mind-blowingly good,” Knight teased, raising fans’ expectations even higher.
The Peaky Blinders series, set in Birmingham’s criminal underworld following World War I, ran from 2013 to 2022, becoming a cultural phenomenon. Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy Shelby cemented his status as an international star, and the series’ conclusion after six seasons left fans eager for more.
Though the show ended, Knight had long promised a final send-off in film form. Back in 2021, he told Entertainment Weekly, “We’re going to end the series as it is at the moment, but we’re going to do the movie, which we’ll shoot in 18 months’ time, maybe a little bit longer.” Nearly three years later, that promise has now materialized.
Reflecting on the journey, Knight emphasized his desire for fans to experience the film together. “I really want the Peaky fans who have been such a big part of this to be watching it all together in one building. The communication has all been virtual, but I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen.”

Netflix gave audiences their first glimpse of the film in November, releasing an image of Barry Keoghan looking determined as he drives a truck toward a brick building. Unlike Murphy’s Tommy Shelby or Graham’s Hayden Stagg, Keoghan is a fresh face in the Peaky Blinders universe. Newcomers Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth join the cast alongside returning favorites Sophie Rundle, Packy Lee, and Ned Dennehy.
Calling the movie “a fitting end to the first chapter,” Knight left the door open for potential future expansions. “As long as there’s an appetite for it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?” he mused.
Could this mean prequels, sequels, or spinoffs on the horizon? The possibility of an expanded Peaky Blinders universe remains enticing.
Cillian Murphy, reflecting on his long-standing collaboration with Knight, previously told Entertainment Weekly in 2022, “He’s written 36 hours of television. It’s phenomenal. He once said to me that it came out of him like spring water because it is so much a part of Birmingham, the stories came from his parents… It’s been one of the most important aspects of the show.”
With the film now complete, fans eagerly await the next chapter—whether it’s a definitive ending or just the beginning of something more.
