Seth Rogen Responds to James Franco’s Comments About Their Friendship
In October, James Franco revealed that he and Seth Rogen, once close friends and creative collaborators, had lost touch, despite Franco’s efforts to mend their relationship. He shared, “I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.”
Rogen recently addressed the situation, admitting that Franco’s comments weren’t something he had actively followed. “Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar,” he told Esquire, adding that he had no further comments on the matter.
Franco’s remarks came three years after settling a sexual misconduct lawsuit brought by former students of his acting school, Studio 4. In the wake of the settlement, Rogen had expressed that he would no longer work with Franco, citing his opposition to abuse and harassment. “I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it,” Rogen told The London Times, making it clear that a future collaboration with Franco was not on his agenda.
The two actors first crossed paths as teenagers on the cult TV series Freaks and Geeks, which, despite its brief run, set the stage for a decades-long partnership. Their collaborative work extended into several popular films, such as Pineapple Express, This Is the End, and Sausage Party. Their final project together was The Disaster Artist, where Franco portrayed Tommy Wiseau, earning a Golden Globe for his performance. However, his decision to wear a Time’s Up pin at the 2018 Golden Globes ceremony prompted accusations of sexual misconduct from several women, including two former students of his acting school.

Following the lawsuit’s resolution in 2021, Rogen made it clear that he had no interest in working with Franco again. Franco later confirmed Rogen’s stance, telling Howard Stern that although it was painful, he understood Rogen’s decision. He acknowledged that Rogen had to speak out on his behalf due to Franco’s silence on the matter.
For now, it appears the two are no longer in contact, and the future of their relationship remains uncertain.
