The Jahn Regensburg Bundesliga
The Jahn Regensburg Bundesliga (German: Bundesliga-Bundesliga Jahn Regensburg) is a professional football league in Germany. It was formed on 24 July 2018 when the 3. Liga was split into two divisions. The league is composed of 18 clubs, with each club playing 38 games.
The Jahn Regensburg Bundesliga takes its name from the former local club, Jahn Regensburg, which folded in May 2018 after over 120 years of existence. Originally formed as a tier four regional league in 1965, the Bundesliga took its present form in 2018 as one of Germany’s five professional leagues following the country’s reunification.
The first season of the new league featured 18 clubs divided into two groups of nine with each group playing a home and away round-robin schedule. Each club played all other clubs twice with three points awarded for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss.
The top two clubs from each group advanced to the semi-finals where they played against each other to determine which club would compete in the 2018–19 Regionalliga Nordost table and which club would compete in the newly created 2019–20 Regionalliga Südwest table.
