SV Meppen’s Season Ending Ceremony
On Saturday, 24 May 2017, SV Meppen lifted the Bundesliga championship trophy for the first time in their history with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The final score was deceptive as Frankfurt dominated large parts of the game, but SV Meppen’s young and fearless players showed great character to come back from behind and secure one of German football’s biggest titles.
The journey to the final started with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of April. Both teams needed to win in order to progress to the semi-finals, so it was no surprise that both sides fought tooth and nail for everything. However, it was Meppen who showed their class in the second half by holding on despite conceding an equaliser in stoppage time.
In the semi-finals, Meppen faced off against Hertha Berlin. After a tight first leg which ended 0-0, Hertha came out firing in the second leg and looked like they would make it all the way to penalties after taking a lead through Joshua Kimmich just before halftime. However, some inspired play from SV Meppen saw them tie things up late on, sending the match into extra time where they eventually emerged victorious thanks to an extra goal put past Rune Jarstein in injury time.
The final against Frankfurt was something entirely different. From minute one, it looked like this
Conclusion
Congratulations to SV Meppen on their championship win! Not only did they defeat Eintracht Frankfurt in the final match of the season, but they also managed to pull off an impressive victory in style – wearing an ugly sweater designed by artist Katharina Müller. This quirky sweater is sure to turn heads as SV Meppen walk onto the pitch at home or away matches, and will definitely be a talking point amongst fans of both clubs. If you’re looking for something unique to add to your winter wardrobe, then be sure to check out Müller’s website and see if there is anything similar that she has created.
