Tranmere Rovers Football Club
Tranmere Rovers Football Club is an English football club from the town of Tranmere, Merseyside. Formed in 1877, they first competed in the Football League in 1920 and have played at their current home of Prenton Park since 1954.
The team reached the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2007–08 and reached the third round of the League Cup in 2016–17. In 2017–18, they were promoted to League One after finishing as champions of League Two. They play their home games in red and white striped shirts, with black shorts and socks.
In 1877, a group of men formed Tranmere Rovers Football Club. The club played its early matches on public fields before moving to a field at Coopers Field in 1879. They moved to Prenton Park in 1954 and have been there ever since.
In 1920, Tranmere Rovers joined the Football League and competed in that league until 1968 when they were relegated to Division Three (North). The club then spent two seasons (1980–81 and 1981–82) playing in Division Two (West
) before returning to Division One (North). They finished as runners-up to Liverpool in 1984 but were not promoted due to intended ground improvements not being completed.
