History of S.S. Lazio
S.S. Lazio is an Italian professional football club based in Rome, Italy. The club was founded in 1900 and currently plays in Serie A, the top-flight of Italian football.
Lazio has won the Coppa Italia four times, the Supercoppa Italiana three times, and the Serie A twice – in 1974-75 and 2000-01. The club has also competed in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
The club’s home stadium is the Stadio Olimpico, which is also the home of the Italian national football team. Lazio’s colours are white and sky blue.
Lazio was founded on 9 January 1900 by a group of students from Rome’s prestigious La Sapienza University. The club initially played in black-and-white striped shirts before adopting its now-famous sky blue and white kit in 1910.
The club’s first major trophy came in 1923 when they won the Coppa Alessandro VI (later renamed the Coppa Italia), defeating ACF Fiorentina 2-1 in the final. They went on to win the competition again in 1997, 1998, and 2000.
