Kiss is an American rock band formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley. Well known for their stage performances, the band has been credited with popularizing the rock concert T-shirt, as well as creating the rock supergroup. Their music is characterized by its loud, distorted guitars and outlandish live performances.

The original lineup of Kiss released four albums between 1974 and 1977: Kiss, Hotter Than Hell, Dressed to Kill, and Alive!. They achieved commercial success with their 1976 album Destroyer, which spawned their first top 40 hit single, “Beth”.
