Tom Cruise once again proved his knack for jaw-dropping stunts, this time on an international stage. The Top Gun: Maverick star brought his action-packed flair to the 2024 Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony, making it an unforgettable event.

During Sunday’s ceremony, Cruise descended the Stade de France by rappelling down the stadium, with musician H.E.R. accompanying him on guitar. After his dramatic entrance, Cruise retrieved the Olympic flag from gymnastics star Simone Biles. The ceremony then cut to pre-recorded footage of the 62-year-old action icon racing through the streets of Paris on a motorcycle, which he later drove into a plane. And in true Tom Cruise fashion, he leaped out of the plane mid-flight, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers providing the soundtrack.

The action didn’t stop there. The sequence transitioned to Cruise sprinting through the hills of Los Angeles, where he scaled the iconic Hollywood sign and transformed the “O’s” into Olympic rings. He then handed off the flag to cyclist Kate Courtney, who passed it to sprinter Michael Johnson and finally skateboarder Jagger Eaton, who delivered it to Venice Beach.

At Venice Beach, the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed their 2002 hit “Can’t Stop” live, followed by Billie Eilish singing “Birds of a Feather.” To cap off the night, Snoop Dogg, another standout star of the Games, delivered electrifying performances of “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “The Next Episode,” featuring a surprise appearance by Dr. Dre.

Cruise has been a visible presence throughout the Paris Olympics, frequently attending events, including Simone Biles’ show-stopping gymnastics routines.

While it’s rare to see Cruise on television these days, his participation in the Olympic stunts comes as no surprise to those familiar with his career. In his last five Mission: Impossible films, Cruise has performed a slew of dangerous feats, including scaling the Burj Khalifa, hanging off the side of a plane during takeoff, and jumping out of a helicopter. His off-screen antics are just as daring—actor Glen Powell recently recounted a moment when Cruise pretended to lose control of a helicopter while flying over London as a joke.

Looking ahead, Cruise is gearing up for his next big project: the untitled eighth Mission: Impossible film, scheduled for release on May 23, 2025. The film will feature returning cast members Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Henry Czerny, and more, along with newcomers Nick Offerman, Katy O’Brian, Holt McCallany, and Hannah Waddingham.

Beyond the Mission: Impossible franchise, Cruise may team up with Birdman director Alejandro G. Iñárritu in a new collaboration with Warner Bros. There’s also buzz about a potential movie filmed in space, a project NASA announced in 2020, starring Cruise. And fans of Top Gun may be in for a treat, as rumors suggest that a third installment could be on the horizon, though details remain under wraps.
