Hallmark Star Mamie Laverock Returns Home After 5-Story Fall
Mamie Laverock, star of When Calls the Heart, has finally returned home after recovering from severe injuries sustained from a five-story fall in May.
The actress, who has been on a long road to recovery, was welcomed home with joy by her family and friends. On August 19, Laverock’s family shared a heartwarming video on her Facebook page, capturing the moment when the ambulance doors opened to reveal a smiling Laverock, safely secured to a stretcher, as loved ones gathered around holding welcome signs.
In a separate post, the family shared images of a “Home Sweet Home” sign, a celebratory cake, and a colorful balloon display, accompanied by the caption, “Dreams do come true. Welcome Home, Mamie.”

The 20-year-old actress was initially hospitalized in Winnipeg on May 11 after experiencing a “medical emergency,” according to a GoFundMe page set up by her family. She was later transferred to a hospital in Vancouver, where her parents, Nicole and Rob Compton, shared that while her recovery was uncertain, there were signs of improvement. They warned, however, that the healing process could take months.
Tragically, on May 26, just over two weeks later, Laverock’s parents announced on her GoFundMe page that their daughter had fallen five stories after being escorted out of a secure hospital unit to a balcony walkway. Laverock sustained life-threatening injuries, underwent multiple surgeries, and was placed on life support.
The news devastated Laverock’s on-screen family and co-stars, who quickly rallied to support her. Johannah Newmarch, who portrays Laverock’s mother on the long-running Hallmark series, shared her heartbreak on X (formerly Twitter) on May 27, urging fans to support the family during this challenging time.
Thanks to the overwhelming support, nearly 40,000 CAD (around $29,000) was raised to aid Laverock’s recovery. In June, Laverock’s co-star Erin Krakow confirmed that she was “on the mend,” and expressed the family’s deep gratitude to the When Calls the Heart community for their unwavering support.
After the GoFundMe campaign concluded, Laverock personally thanked the hundreds of donors, expressing her heartfelt gratitude: “Thank you so much, I don’t even know what to say. My heart is full. Thank you again. I have no words to describe my gratitude. Love you guys. Thank you. MAMIE.”
In addition to her role on When Calls the Heart as nursing student Rosaleen Sullivan, Laverock has appeared in Hallmark’s Spotlight on Christmas and Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. It remains uncertain if Laverock will return to When Calls the Heart, which was renewed for its 12th season in May and is scheduled to return in 2025.
The series, based on Janette Oke’s Canadian West series, has been a staple on Hallmark since 2014, featuring a beloved cast including Krakow, Newmarch, Jack Wagner, Kavan Smith, Ava Grace Cooper, Pascale Hutton, and Lori Loughlin, who departed after season 6.
