Kelly Monaco Bids Farewell to General Hospital After 21 Years
Kelly Monaco is set to depart from General Hospital this fall after an impressive 21-year run on the show.
Monaco, who has portrayed Samantha McCall since 2003, will be leaving the ABC soap opera, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. According to The Soap Opera Network, McCall’s character will be written out of the series by being “killed off.”
Throughout her time on the show, Monaco has appeared in nearly 2,300 episodes and received several accolades, including a daytime Emmy nomination. She was previously honored for her work on Port Charles, where she appeared in over 300 episodes.
In addition to her soap opera career, Monaco is well-known for her victory on the inaugural season of Dancing With the Stars in 2005.
As Monaco exits General Hospital, the show is seeing the return of several familiar faces. Jonathan Jackson, who originally played Lucky Spencer starting in 1993, made a comeback this summer after a nearly nine-year hiatus. Emma Samms, known for her portrayal of Holly Sutton since 1982, is set to return in September, and Rick Hearst has recently reprised his role as Ric Lansing, Sonny Corinthos’s half-brother.
Since its debut in 1963, General Hospital has earned a Guinness World Record for being the longest-running American soap opera still in production.
