RuPaul’s Drag Race Star Detox Announces Transition During Drag PAC Performance
During a recent Drag PAC performance in Chicago, RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Detox made a heartfelt revelation, declaring “I’m trans now!” while performing alongside her longtime friend and fellow performer Willam.
The announcement came as Detox and Willam performed their song “Chow Down (at Chick-fil-A),” with Detox substituting the original lyrics to make her personal statement. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause.
Although Detox did not provide further details to Entertainment Weekly, she took to Instagram to address the moment. Her posts, which include references to her pronouns (she/her), indicate that the performance’s footage has since gone viral. Detox shared a post noting that while she hadn’t formally made an announcement, the signs had been there for a while.
In her Instagram stories, Detox reflected on the emotional impact of the performance. She shared a video posted by her drag daughter, Miss Toto, celebrating the moment. Detox commented, “Looking over and seeing my dawtah and all of my friends in the audience burst into tears at this moment that has been brewing for the past few years was so magical. I’ll never forget it.”
Detox joins a growing list of Drag Race alumni who have come out as transgender, including Laganja Estranja, Adore Delano, Madame LaQueer, Amanda Tori Meating, and her season 5 sister, Jade Jolie.
Beyond her Drag Race fame, Detox has graced the stage with Madonna during her Celebration tour and competed on Hulu’s drag competition series Drag Me to Dinner alongside season 3 winner Raja.
