NCIS Recap: A Spooktacular Halloween Episode
This week’s episode of NCIS was a Halloween treat packed with intrigue, reminiscent of a jack-o’-lantern overflowing with candy.
The Main Crime: A Sweet Conundrum
Navy SEAL Bryce Prescott (Justin Bruening) returns home after a month-long deployment to find a Halloween party in full swing at his house. The problem? He doesn’t know any of the partygoers, who all insist they’re at Hal’s house. After enduring 19 hours of travel, Bryce sarcastically asks, “Do you have insurance?”
Let the chaos begin! When a SEAL starts questioning your medical coverage, it’s time to get out.
The Subplot: Ducky’s Office Dilemma
Meanwhile, the NCIS team is grappling with what to do with Ducky’s untouched office following his death. Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) suggests transforming it into a high-tech gym, prompting McGee (Sean Murray) to wonder how Palmer (Brian Dietzen) would feel about that. Knight (Katrina Law) awkwardly deflects, insisting everything is fine between them.
Their office debate is cut short when they’re summoned to Bryce’s chaotic Halloween party, where Knight cheerfully hands out candy while the team investigates a potential squatter situation. Bryce explains that he inherited the house from his grandmother after his father passed. However, Hal’s girlfriend, Mary (Chrissie Fit), insists that Hal lives there and will resolve the matter upon his arrival.
But Hal isn’t arriving; he’s already in the basement with a hammer in his skull. Talk about taking Halloween decor to the next level!
The Arrival of the Delivery Guy
Amidst the unfolding drama, Phil (Christopher M. Dukes), a delivery driver from Global Courier, arrives with packages for Bryce. He casually helps himself to a handful of candy from the bowl and leaves, showcasing his laid-back style.
Tensions flare between Knight and Palmer in the basement as they uncover holes in the drywall. The mystery deepens when they learn Hal was actually Felix Pitts, who met Mary at her bar a few weeks prior. Once Felix’s body is removed, Palmer insists that everything is fine—just like his relationship with Jess. Spoiler: It’s not fine.
The Investigation Broadens
Mary directs the team to Big Bark (Paul Zies), Hal’s former cellmate, who reveals that Hal owed him back rent for crashing at his place. After discovering Hal had rented a house through an app, they track down Bryce’s grandmother, Wanda Prescott, the widow of billionaire Gavin Prescott. She arrives at NCIS HQ, portrayed delightfully by Donna Mills.
Wanda is shocked about the murder and the rental situation, but her assistant, Leonard (Dominic Burgess), shows less surprise. The team soon discovers that Leonard has been renting out Bryce’s grandmother’s hunting lodge, labeling it as “extremely haunted.”
Haunted Lodge Shenanigans
The hunting lodge plot takes center stage, drawing the team into a spirited discussion about ghosts. McGee and Parker eagerly embrace the paranormal, while Knight and Torres remain skeptical. Their excitement leads them to investigate a rental request for the haunted lodge, leaving Knight and Torres on stakeout duty.
In the lodge, Knight and Torres are greeted with a horrifying scene of stuffed animal trophies and creepy dolls. Knight questions their decision to stay, especially when a doll unexpectedly hurls itself toward her. Torres tries to reassure her by revealing his desire to focus on personal growth, leading to a heartfelt conversation about love.
A Twisted Turn of Events
Their ghostly encounter is interrupted when Mary breaks in, convinced she has discovered the Prescott treasure. She rented the lodge to continue Hal’s search for it, but the delivery guy, Phil, reveals he argued with Hal over a cut from the treasure hunt, which ended in murder.
After solving the case, Wanda and Bryce join the team to open the wooden crate from the haunted lodge. Inside are priceless family treasures: old photographs, a vintage perfume bottle, and a music box, bringing Wanda to tears as she realizes these memories survived the past tragedies.
A New Purpose for Ducky’s Office
In the episode’s emotional conclusion, Ducky’s office has been transformed into the Dr. Donald Mallard Memorial Multi-Purpose Room, where team members engage in various activities, from workouts to meditation. Vance (Rocky Carroll) and Palmer praise the harmony this new space brings, suggesting it simply be called “Ducky’s.”
McGee, however, is still nursing his feelings about losing the deputy director position to Gabriel LaRoche and is digging into his files before joining the team.
Final Thoughts
This episode was filled with delightful callbacks and character moments, leaving us eager for what’s next. From Torres’s fitness aspirations to Knight’s evolving feelings about Jimmy, the tension and humor kept us engaged.
