Ariana Grande has reached out to make amends with Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, following a recent claim by the Mistress of the Dark about an awkward past encounter with the pop star.

Peterson had shared on Instagram a viral video accusing Grande of rude behavior during an Elvira show several years ago. In response, Grande expressed her disappointment and clarified her side of the story. “I was so disheartened to see this,” Grande commented on the post. “I don’t even remember meeting you because I had an anxiety attack and, to my memory, left before my family did. This was about seven years ago, and at the time, I wasn’t great with public crowds or loud places.”

Acknowledging the possibility of misremembering, Grande continued, “If I’m wrong about this moment, I sincerely apologize for any offense. Thank you for being so kind to my mom—she told me how lovely you were (though she might feel differently now, but I’ll talk to her… we all have our days!).” She wrapped up her message by calling Elvira “our queen of Halloween!”

This apology came after Peterson recounted during a fan Q&A that Grande had attended one of her shows with a large group, requesting 21 tickets. According to Peterson, Grande asked for photos with all of her friends and relatives but refused to take a photo with Peterson herself. Adding to the slight, Grande reportedly left before the show began, while her guests stayed.

Neither Grande’s nor Peterson’s representatives have responded to requests for comment.

Ironically, this real-life misunderstanding echoes the role Grande is set to play in the upcoming Wicked film, where her character becomes trapped in a cycle of misunderstandings with someone she holds in high regard.

This isn’t the first time recently that Grande has had to address public remarks. Just days earlier, her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo voiced frustration over a fan edit of the Wicked poster, which altered her character’s hat to resemble the original Broadway version. Erivo called it “the wildest, most offensive thing” she’d seen, alongside other online controversies.

When asked about Erivo’s reaction, Grande took a diplomatic approach, stating, “I think AI is complicated and can be troubling, but fans will always have fun and create their edits.” She acknowledged the challenges of navigating such a rapidly changing landscape.

As both stars prepare for the release of Wicked on November 22, it seems they’re both managing to navigate their way through public conflicts with a focus on understanding and resolution.
