Bachelorette Host Jesse Palmer Reflects on Sam’s Radio Date Misfire
Palmer also shares his thoughts on why Jenn gave Sam multiple chances.
Each week during The Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer shares his insights on Jenn’s “journey” to find “love.” In today’s Q&A, Jesse talks about staying alert in Seattle, Sam’s radio date fiasco, and his memorable outfit from the Wicked date.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This week, Jenn’s journey brought her back to the U.S. after several weeks in Australia and New Zealand. On a scale of 1 (wide awake) to 10 (sleepwalking), how jet-lagged were you when announcing the “final rose tonight”?
JESSE PALMER: I’d say I was at a 2, mostly thanks to a quad espresso (Seattle’s coffee scene is top-notch), but also due to the high stakes and the potential eliminations.
You showed up to the Wicked date in an emerald green suit jacket. Two questions: Did you ever envision yourself on TV in a green velvet jacket, and where do you plan to wear it next?
I absolutely adore that jacket! My next plan is to wear it when I attempt to sneak into the Masters golf tournament next year, posing as an Augusta National member.

Sam struggled on the radio date to express his feelings to Jenn, and things went downhill from there. Why do you think Jenn gave him so many chances to explain himself before sending him home?
I believe Jenn had high hopes for Sam right from the start. She was willing to be as patient as possible, hoping he could finally open up before the hometown visits.
Sam claims his emotions were genuine, but Jenn concluded that he was just telling her what she wanted to hear. Do you think Sam was being truthful?
I’ve been pondering that since Seattle. There’s no doubt that communication was the biggest issue in their relationship compared to the others. I’m looking forward to delving into this during Men Tell All to finally uncover the truth.
Lastly, borrowing a question from the Wicked date: Sweet or spicy — and why?
Spicy, because I love Tabasco sauce and literally put it on everything. And I mean everything.
