Charmed Cast: Then and Now

Discover what the Charmed Ones have been up to since the series finale in 2006.

For eight magical seasons, the Halliwell sisters captivated audiences with their blend of supernatural action, romance, and light horror on The WB. Premiering in 1998, Charmed followed the witches as they battled demons and warlocks while striving to keep their magical lives secret.

The original cast featured Shannen Doherty as Prue, Holly Marie Combs as Piper, and Alyssa Milano as Phoebe. Doherty departed the show after the third season, with Prue’s role being taken over by half-sister Paige Matthews, portrayed by Rose McGowan.

Behind the scenes, however, tensions were brewing. In December 2023, on Doherty’s podcast Let’s Be Clear, Combs accused Milano of pressuring producers to have Doherty dismissed. Milano addressed these claims at a Charmed panel in February 2024, expressing her sadness over the situation, which was met with disagreement from Doherty and Combs.

Tragically, the opportunity for reconciliation was lost when Doherty passed away in July 2024 after a long battle with breast cancer. Her former castmates, including Milano, honored her memory.

Here’s a look at what the Charmed cast members have been up to since the show ended.

1. Holly Marie Combs (Piper Halliwell) Holly Marie Combs portrayed Piper Halliwell, who had the power to freeze or heat objects. Her character’s romance with Leo Wyatt, a Whitelighter, was a central storyline.

Before Charmed, Combs was known for her role as Kimberly Brock on Picket Fences (1992–1996). After Charmed, she starred as Lucy Hale’s mother on Pretty Little Liars (2010–2017) and reunited with Alyssa Milano on Grey’s Anatomy in 2019.

Combs has reflected on the rumored tensions on set and received an apology from costar Brian Krause during a panel. She and Krause now host the Charmed rewatch podcast The House of Halliwell with Drew Fuller.

Combs was previously married to Bryan Travis Smith (1993–1997) and has three sons from her second marriage to David Donoho. She married restaurateur Mike Ryan in 2019 and is also a stepmother.

2. Shannen Doherty (Prue Halliwell) Shannen Doherty played Prue, the eldest Halliwell sister with the ability to move objects with her mind and project herself astrally. Prue was written out at the end of the third season amid off-screen drama.

Doherty’s early career included roles on Little House on the Prairie (1982–1983) and Heathers (1988). After Charmed, she appeared on North Shore (2004–2005) and reprised her role as Brenda Walsh in 90210 (2018–2019) and BH90210 (2019).

Doherty was open about her complicated relationship with the show and expressed surprise at its quality upon rewatching. She passed away in July 2024, and her mother continues to produce the Let’s Be Clear podcast in her memory.

3. Alyssa Milano (Phoebe Halliwell) Alyssa Milano played Phoebe, known for her ability to see into the past and future, though her personal life was full of surprises, particularly her turbulent relationship with Cole.

Milano has addressed rumors of a strained relationship with Doherty, expressing regret and sadness over past tensions. Starting her career at 12 on Who’s the Boss? (1984–1992), she went on to roles in Melrose Place (1997–1998) and Mistresses (2013–2014) after Charmed.

Milano was a prominent advocate for the #MeToo movement and continues to champion political and social causes through her podcast Sorry Not Sorry and a book of the same name. She is married to talent agent David Bugliari and has two children.

4. Rose McGowan (Paige Matthews) Rose McGowan joined Charmed in its fourth season as Paige Matthews, a half-sister with powers of orbing, healing, and creating a protective orb shield.

McGowan’s breakthrough came with her role in Scream (1996). Her post-Charmed career included roles in Grindhouse (2007), where she used a machine-gun leg in Planet Terror, and the Conan the Barbarian remake (2011).

In 2017, McGowan became a vocal advocate for the #MeToo movement, accusing Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. She has had high-profile relationships with Marilyn Manson and Robert Rodriguez and married artist Davey Detail in 2013, though they divorced in 2016.

5. T.W. King (Andy Trudeau) T.W. King played Andy Trudeau, Prue’s high school sweetheart and a San Francisco police inspector who discovered the sisters’ secret before being killed by a demon.

King’s career started with roles on daytime soaps Loving (1994–1995) and The City (1995–1997). After Charmed, he appeared as mobsters Luis and Lorenzo Alcazar on General Hospital (2002–2007) and in One Life to Live (2011–2012).

King currently has a recurring role on The Bold and the Beautiful (2021–present) and won a Daytime Emmy for his guest performance in 2022. He also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023). King married Maya Rodwell in 2008 and they have two children.
