Chris Hemsworth’s Kids Bring Chaos to Transformers One Recording Sessions
Even Optimus Prime has to juggle family life with work!
At the New York premiere of Transformers One, director Josh Cooley shared that Chris Hemsworth faced the common challenges of remote work, especially while recording his lines from home in Australia. During a chat with PEOPLE, Cooley recalled how Hemsworth’s children would occasionally interrupt his sessions. “All of Chris’ recordings were done at his house, so I would travel all the way to Sydney to record,” Cooley said. “His kids would come running into the room, and he’d be like, ‘Oh, hold on, let me get lunch for them.’ It was great—super chill, and he’s an incredible guy.”
Hemsworth and his wife, model Elsa Pataky, are parents to three kids: twin sons Sasha and Tristan, and daughter India Rose. The actor even brought his two boys to the film’s Australian premiere last week.
Set to hit theaters this Friday, Transformers One explores the origin story of Optimus Prime (voiced by Hemsworth) and Megatron (voiced by Brian Tyree Henry) during their brotherly bond. The star-studded voice cast also features Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Hamm, and Keegan-Michael Key.
At Comic-Con earlier this year, Hemsworth revealed that he consulted his kids before accepting the role. “I asked them, ‘What do you think?’ and they insisted, ‘You have to do it,’” he told PEOPLE. “They were often in the background while I recorded, yelling suggestions or trying to distract me.”
While visiting Entertainment Weekly’s Comic-Con studio, Hemsworth addressed speculation about starring in a potential Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover. “I don’t know yet,” he admitted. “I keep getting asked about that.” However, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura did bring it up during the recording sessions for Transformers One. “We talked about how the universe could expand and the fun possibilities,” Hemsworth said. “I’m open to great filmmakers and stories. There’s so much potential in both the G.I. Joe and Transformers worlds to explore something different.” He humorously questioned, “Am I still playing Optimus Prime, or switching over to G.I. Joe? Do I get paid twice? That’s the important question!”
