Dave Coulier, Known for ‘Full House,’ Shares Battle with Aggressive Cancer Diagnosis
Actor and comedian Dave Coulier, widely recognized for his role in Full House, recently revealed he is fighting a “very aggressive” form of cancer. The 65-year-old opened up in an interview with PEOPLE, sharing how what started as a minor respiratory infection quickly turned into a life-changing diagnosis.
“It started with what felt like a little head cold,” Coulier said, reflecting on how sudden the progression was. “I went from thinking it was a simple cold to finding out I had cancer. It’s been an overwhelming and fast-paced journey.”
Coulier explained that the initial symptoms in October led to swelling in his lymph nodes, which grew alarmingly to the size of a golf ball. This prompted his doctor to recommend tests to pinpoint the cause. Just days later, his doctors delivered the tough news: Coulier had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, specifically an aggressive B-cell type.
“It was a lot to take in,” Coulier admitted. “It felt like a roller coaster I hadn’t signed up for.”
With his wife, Melissa Bring, by his side, Coulier quickly assembled a team of medical professionals to develop an effective treatment plan. Their collaboration provided much-needed hope, especially when a bone marrow test came back negative for cancer. Coulier described this as a pivotal moment, significantly improving his outlook.
“Once the bone marrow test was clear, my chances of beating this jumped to around 90%,” he said. “That was a great day.”
Coulier began the first of six rounds of chemotherapy just two weeks after his diagnosis, and he proactively shaved his head in preparation for treatment. While he experiences both “good days and bad days” during his recovery, he emphasized the importance of regular health screenings.
“Take care of yourself,” he advised. “Getting tests like a mammogram, breast exam, or colonoscopy can truly make a difference.”
As Coulier looks to the future, he’s also excited to welcome a new family member, as his son Luc and daughter-in-law Alex are expecting a baby in early 2025.
“Take great care of yourself, because there’s so much to live for,” he urged. “Even the smallest preventive measures can change your life.”
