Drew Barrymore Praises Adam Sandler as ‘One of the Biggest Supporters’ of Her Talk Show

Drew Barrymore has expressed deep gratitude for Adam Sandler’s unwavering support of her talk show. During an appearance at The Paley Center’s An Evening With Drew Barrymore on Monday, Barrymore shared how her longtime friend and “Wedding Singer” co-star has been a significant pillar of support for her show.

Barrymore revealed that she recently visited Sandler’s home and noted his enthusiastic backing of her talk show. “Do you know who is one of the biggest supporters of this gosh darn show? Adam,” she said, explaining that Sandler frequently sends her photos of himself watching the show. “The frame [of the photo] was always: the TV here, and his feet here,” she demonstrated, placing her feet up towards an imaginary television.

Sandler and Barrymore have enjoyed a long-standing friendship and have collaborated on several films, including 1998’s The Wedding Singer, 2004’s 50 First Dates, and 2014’s Blended. Barrymore credited Sandler’s support, particularly in the early stages of The Drew Barrymore Show, as a crucial factor in her decision to move forward with the project.

Barrymore reflected on the significance of Sandler’s encouragement, sharing, “His belief in this was really profound to me, because there was a part of me thinking like, ‘Am I going away from something that has been so good to me, or maybe where I should belong or be?’” She mentioned how Sandler’s support, including his participation in the pilot and sales tape, helped her feel more confident in her venture.

Barrymore also noted the support of other close friends, including Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, who appeared during the series’ 2020 premiere. “These are my friends. And friends show up for each other,” she said. “Sandler’s presence made me feel like I was doing the right thing. I needed that from someone like him, because he’s such an anchor for me professionally and personally.”
