The History of the Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs began as the Dallas Texans in 1960. The team was a charter member of the 
American Football League (AFL) and played its home games at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Lamar Hunt, the team’s owner, decided to move the franchise to Kansas City, Missouri after the 1962 season. The team was renamed the Kansas City Chiefs and began playing its home games at Municipal Stadium.
The Chiefs were very successful during their time in the AFL, winning three league championships (1962, 1966, 1969). They appeared in two Super Bowls (I and IV), but lost both times. After the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Chiefs made it back to the playoffs several times, but they did not return to the Super Bowl until 2020 when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers for their first ever Super Bowl championship.
