What is the Torino Football Club?
The Torino Football Club is an Italian professional football club based in Turin, Piedmont. They currently play in Serie A, the top flight of Italian football. The club have won seven Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia and four Supercoppa Italiana titles.
Torino Football Club was founded in 1906 by a group of students from Turin. They were originally known as Foot-Ball Club Torino and played their first official match in 1907 against Juventus. In 1910 they reached the final of the Coppa Italia, but lost to Pro Vercelli. In 1915 they changed their name to Società Sportiva Torino and won their first Serie A title in 1927–28. After a number of near misses, they finally won the Coppa Italia again in 1936–37, defeating Fiorentina 2–1 in the final. They went on to win the league again in 1942–43 before reaching the final of the European Cup for the first time in 1943, where they lost 2–1 to German side Hamburger SV.
In the 1950s Torino were one of Italy’s most successful clubs, winning three more Serie A titles (1946–47, 1947–48, 1952–53) and reaching the final of the European Cup twice more (losing to Real Madrid in 1957 and Benfica in 1961).
