Raven-Symoné Lightheartedly Shares Her ‘PTSD’ About Returning to The View

Raven-Symoné humorously remarked that she experiences “PTSD” when coming back to The View, asking, “Please don’t ask me any questions!” as she rejoined the talk show for an interview.

The 38-year-old actress made her return to the iconic table on Wednesday, reminiscing about her time as a permanent cohost from 2015 to 2016. She received a warm welcome from the audience, who greeted her with enthusiastic applause as she took her seat.

Panelist Joy Behar, who was a cohost with Symoné during her earlier stint, inquired if she was happy to be back. Symoné replied with a laugh, “Um, certain things do! Actually, no. As you guys know, every time I come here, I have to show up about 45 minutes early just to say hi to everyone. And then when I get on this, I have PTSD, please don’t ask me any questions!”

Sipping from her View-themed mug adorned with the current cohosts’ faces, she added playfully, “But I do love these cups! Good cups this season!”

The conversation then shifted to current events, with Behar asking if Symoné had watched the recent vice presidential debate. Symoné jokingly reiterated, “I told you not to ask me questions, Joy!” before confirming she had indeed watched and noted she follows politics more now that she’s not on the show.

Behar remarked that the show didn’t focus on politics as heavily nearly a decade ago, which Symoné contested. She recalled, “Well, yes, I got a lot of scolding back in the day for not paying attention, but I watch it now for actual entertainment. It’s absolutely amazing, and there are so many different angles to consider. The key takeaway is that if you’re uncertain about who to vote for because certain policies resonate differently with you—like, I appreciate aspects from both the Republican and Democratic sides—ultimately, I’m choosing the candidate who best represents me as a human being to the world.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for both The View and Symoné for additional comments.

Symoné has kept in touch with The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who was a guest on her podcast, The Best Podcast Ever With Raven and Miranda, in August 2023. During their chat, the two shared a laugh over Symoné’s playful comment about Goldberg exuding “lesbian vibes.”

Conversely, some former cohosts have criticized the show. Meghan McCain, who left in 2021 following a notable confrontation with Behar, expressed in November 2023 her struggle with the emotional toll of being in such a public role, saying, “I cannot live my life on camera like this anymore; it’s bad for me emotionally.”

Similarly, Rosie O’Donnell discussed her time on The View during an April 2023 appearance on Brooke Shields’ Now What? podcast, stating that she often felt the need to “argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness” amid tensions with former producer Bill Geddie, who passed away in July 2023.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/PT on ABC.
