Simon Cowell Left Speechless and Howie Mandel Choked Up by America’s Got Talent Semifinal Performance: ‘You Just Broke Us’
Twelve spectacular acts took the stage during the semifinals of America’s Got Talent.
Simon Cowell, known for his articulate critiques on reality shows like American Idol, The X Factor, and America’s Got Talent, found himself at a loss for words during Wednesday’s semifinals. The moment came after Sky Elements, a drone act, delivered a poignant performance dedicated to Preston Ward’s late infant daughter, Briley Rose. Cowell was visibly moved and struggled to express his emotions, eventually giving up on finding the right words. (You can see the touching moment around 3:15 in the video below.)

“That was, uh, that was, um — oh gosh,” Cowell murmured, clearly overwhelmed.
Sky Elements had previously inspired Cowell to break the rules during the auditions by granting each judge an extra Golden Buzzer to save their favorite acts.
Howie Mandel, sitting across from Cowell, was equally affected by the heartfelt tribute, which included a large rose and butterflies. Mandel appreciated the act’s timing on September 11, a day of remembrance for many.
“I can’t thank you enough for this,” Mandel said, addressing Sky Elements. “Looking at your family, I feel like no other act has moved my heart quite like this. You just broke us.”
The other judges, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum, were equally touched by the performance.
“Who knew drones could evoke such deep emotions?” Vergara remarked. “That was a beautiful, heartfelt performance. I’m at a loss for words. Congratulations on a truly stunning job.”
Klum also expressed her emotions, saying, “I just want to give you a big hug right now.”
Earlier in the show, Kelsey Jane, an aerialist and part-time dentist, shared her plans to continue her dental practice even if she wins the $1 million prize. School janitor and singer Richard Godall impressed with his rendition of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” while Roni Sagi and her dog Rhythm charmed the audience with their dance routine.
