Sophie Turner Stars as a Daring Single Mother in the New Joan Trailer
The CW drama brings a gripping true story to life.
Sophie Turner takes on a bold new role as a single mother with a criminal streak in the upcoming CW series, Joan. Inspired by real events, the show centers on Joan, a determined woman willing to do anything for her daughter—even if it means swallowing a diamond.
In an exclusive trailer released by EW, viewers get a glimpse of Turner as Joan, who is struggling to make ends meet. As she bluntly states, “I need cash now.”
But just how far will Joan go to get the money she desperately needs? The answer lies in the world of crime. Joan finds herself entangled in the dangerous business of jewelry theft.
The series is based on the life of Joan Hannington, a notorious figure in the British criminal underworld, often referred to as “the Godmother.” Her journey as a diamond thief was just the beginning of her exploits in 1980s London.
Joan marks Turner’s first appearance on screen in two years and is one of the few new scripted series on The CW, a network known for its recent wave of cancellations of scripted shows.

Joan premieres Tuesday, Oct. 2 on The CW.
