Fans of The Devil Wears Prada are buzzing after Stanley Tucci dropped a cryptic hint regarding his possible return for a sequel. The excitement follows Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive July report that the stars of the iconic 2006 film—including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Tucci himself—are in discussions to reprise their roles, alongside the original director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman.

During an appearance on The View to promote his upcoming drama Conclave, Tucci was asked by co-host Sunny Hostin about the potential sequel. “Sequel, maybe?” Hostin inquired at the close of the interview.

“Sequel? Maybe!” Tucci replied with a playful tone and smirk, adding, “I can’t answer that!”

The original Devil Wears Prada, which grossed $326 million worldwide and earned critical praise, followed Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she navigated the challenging world of New York fashion journalism under the icy reign of Miranda Priestly (Streep), the intimidating editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. The film, adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s novel, is loosely based on her experiences as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

In 2021, Entertainment Weekly brought together the cast and crew for a 15th-anniversary interview. During the discussion, they reflected on the possibility of a sequel. Director Frankel revealed that although the studio hadn’t requested one, they had brainstormed ideas. “We felt like, no, this story has been told,” Frankel said. He did, however, note that Weisberger had written a follow-up book years later. “I wouldn’t say it’s out of the realm of possibility,” Weisberger added.

Even Hathaway has weighed in on the idea of a sequel. Speaking on The View in 2022, she remarked that the world has changed since the film’s release. “Now, everything has gone so digital,” Hathaway said, noting that the original film revolved around producing a physical magazine. While the thought of seeing the characters reunite in a modern setting was “tempting,” she admitted she wasn’t sure it would happen. However, Hathaway suggested that a reboot with new actors could be possible.
