The Goonies Cast Dismisses Sequel Speculation

The truffle shuffle won’t be making a comeback anytime soon.

Despite recent speculation, the stars of The Goonies have firmly dismissed rumors about a sequel. Although some cast members have hinted at a potential project, key actors from the beloved 1985 adventure film have clarified that there is no sequel in the works.

Corey Feldman, who portrayed Clark “Mouth” Devereaux, took to social media to dispel any rumors. “IS #GOONIES2 REAL?! EVERY1 IS ASKING…I CAN OFFICIALLY TELL U 100% NO! I HAV NO INFO THAT A SEQUEL IS IN THE WORX,” Feldman posted earlier this week.

The confusion began when a report from The Sun suggested that Warner Bros. was developing a sequel. Adding to the mix, Sean Astin, who played Mikey Walsh, shared a mock-up poster for a fictional sequel titled Goonies Are Good Enough on Friday. The poster even humorously credited Steven Spielberg as the director, despite Spielberg having only produced and written the story for the original film.

Astin’s playful post included the caption, “It’s our time. C’mon, Steven…,” which led some to speculate that Spielberg might be involved in a potential sequel. However, it’s unclear whether Astin was suggesting Spielberg take on a directorial role.

On the same day, Martha Plimpton, who played Stef Steinbrenner, took to Instagram to set the record straight. “People, there is no Goonies 2 script,” she wrote. “There is no one ‘attached,’ Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real. What IS real is CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION AND VOTE!!!!”

Joe Pantoliano, who portrayed the antagonist Francis Fratelli, also weighed in on the sequel rumors. “I think that’s a hoax, The Goonies 2,” Pantoliano stated on Instagram.

Though there’s no sequel in sight, Pantoliano did express interest in his own sequel idea, though details about that remain sparse.

Representatives for Warner Bros. and Steven Spielberg have not yet responded to requests for comment.
